Kindle Your Social Life --- We're Making Reading Cool Again

Here is my new sci-fi novel MetaGame at 80 cents. It has recieved some great reviews.

/////////
Blurb:
Life is a game, literally. Winners earn immortality, while losers are condemned to aging and death. D_Light, a gifted player, knows this all too well and he's willing to do anything to win-even kill. It is no wonder then that when given the chance to enter a MetaGame-an exclusive, high-stakes, anything goes contest-he's quick to jump at the opportunity. The MetaGame starts out well enough for D_Light, the first quest being to hunt down a dangerous fugitive, but through his own ambition, the tables turn and D_Light finds himself the renegade. Now, D_Light pits himself against his world to find the truth behind "The Game" and must decide between winning it and saving what's left of his humanity.

This novel blends emerging political and cultural trends, such as gaming culture, globalization, and the ever-increasing hegemony of corporations, with technological trends, such as genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. Emerging from this stew is an original world to explore through the point of view of several of its "players".

Sam! I chose Metagame because it was cheap, what a great surprise. This is a fantastic book. I am an avid but non-average gamer, being in my forties and not particularly geeky, but i have been playing games and reading science fiction for a long time. MetaGame totally hit a nerve on many levels. I'm not sure how best to praise your book here (is this your first?) but what's really extraordinary is that many of your ideas made me want to talk to you in person. Your brief section on the state and marriage licenses is spot on, my sentiments exactly and seems so obviously correct. I appreciated you're addressing the boundaries of AI and the meaning of being human. In all a superbly crafted book that wove together many political and social and humanitarian issues into an enthralling story line. Bravo! I look forward to more. And seriously, if you are in Seattle area (there was a reference) i'll buy you a Fuel if you drop me a line.

Shannon, thanks so much for the kind words! You're the first person to specifically mention the marriage license blurb. I wondered how well those blurbs (I think they're called epigraphs) would be recieved, that is, whether readers would find them interesting or just distracting and/or boring. Although my political beliefs are not necessarily in line with many of the characters in the book (good thing eh?), I too think that some of America's present sticky social issues could get cleared up with some good old fashioned "seperation of church and state". It also made for a cool origin for this future societies’ idea of the family unit-- a view that flavored much of the political and social feel of the book.

I'm glad you like how I put the world together. It actually took a lot of time and it is very heartening to hear from another who appreciates it.

Incidentally, I'm not really a gamer, at least not any more. I used to really be into strategy games (e.g. Civilization series by Sid Meyer was my favorite), but I found that I enjoyed these games a little too much. (: My pattern was that after gaming all night and disgusted with myself, I'd end up smashing the game CD with a rock and uninstalling it from my computer. I actually did this enough times over the years that I had a term for it called "rocking the game".

Yes, this is my first book. I have some ideas for a sequel, but I'm just at the note taking stage. I also was thinking of trying to write a fantasy novel.

BTW, BIG THANKS FOR THE REVIEW! Reviews like yours do a lot for the long term health of my book. I actually live in the Seattle area and it would be fun to chat sometime. (:

Thanks!

Just an update that MetaGame is now .99 cents rather than 80 cents. This is because Amazon pulled the 20% discount. Just wanted to mention it so folks didn't think I was pulling a "bait 'n switch" given that the title of this thread says it's 80 cents.

Thanks to everyone's support. The book is selling well and the feedback has been great!

BTW, I'll be on vaca for the next week and won't have internet access.

My novel MetaGame is now FREE! That’s right, no cost and no DRM associated. In fact, you can get the novel in a variety of formats for all kinds of devices besides the Kindle. Send it to all your friends!

Get it here while it lasts: http://samlandstrom.com/metagame.aspx

In addition, MetaGame has been recently re-edited. Some new content added and some semi-lame stuff pulled. BTW, the version in the store was updated too and that one is only a penny, so if you'd rather use whispernet, go here: http://www.amazon.com/MetaGame-ebook/dp/B002L4EXB0.

I'd give it away, but Amazon won't let it go for free. Only traditional publishers can swing that deal. ):

Let me know if you run into issues with these formats.

Last chance to get MetaGame for 1 cent in the Kindle Store. I just raised the price to $2.99, but it will take a while to take effect.

Incidentally, MetaGame has been bobbing around in the top 100 best sellers for the last 3 weeks. It'll be interesting to see if it stays up there even a day after the price hike takes effect.
