That's an odd combination, eldon, and it suggests to me that you might be open to something slightly different but not strange at all, just different. I have two possibilities for you, for which you could try the free samples. I've read one and written the other.

For an excellent, meaty, long, fantasy/sci-fi story, try In Her Name, by Michael Hicks. It's a steal for the price.

For a little less fantasy/sci-fi, but a little more adventure with a seasoning of romance, take a look at Distant Cousin. It's a bargain book: $4.

There is also the Baen free library at Baen.com I've been reading some books in the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. They fall into the Military Sci-fi category, and have been some interesting reading! Baen will even e-mail them directly to your Kindle! ( you have to put their e-mail into your accepted list , of course)
