Kindle Your Social Life --- We're Making Reading Cool Again

It was certain to happen, but not this soon I had hopped. I dropped my Kindle on our wood floors and sure enough, the top right hand corner of the screen is lights out. I have lots of plastic devices (phones, ipods, etc) and I have never broken one that I can recall. The Kindle is inherently a somewhat fragile device given the "glass" screen and its slippery body.

Of course I am self insured (or this wouldn't happen) and looks like Amazon wants $200 for a replacement. It is a lot but seems fair since they are replacing it with a new device and that is probably near their cost anyway. Turns out that this is a real hidden cost of such a device, and yes delicate, like the Kindle. If the price were closer to a $100 or so it wouldn't be so painful.

Lots of new stuff in the pipeline so I did think to wait and hold out for something better - perhaps a different color!!. But another odd and somewhat unsettling feeling has set in; I really don't want to read anything that isn't on my Kindle. Hmmm.

I accidentally dropped my Kindle (before I got a case for it), and Amazon sent me a free replacement within 24 hours.

That is interesting. Was it within 30 days of purchase?

Egads! I would be lost without my Kindle! I'm glad you can replace it.

Bought my Kindle 2 day it came on (in February). Screen broke Saturday... called them Monday... had a new one by Tuesday. :)

Me: My screen has lines in it.
Amazon: Let's do a reboot.
Me: Still has lines.
Amazon: Looks like we'll have to send you a replacement. I'll be there tomorrow.

(And I was lost without it for those few days. Especially on my commute to and from work on the subway. It's crazy the things you notice people doing when you aren't reading)

As klutzy as I am I knew that it would happen with me so first thing I did was buy a good cover for it.
Sure enough, I have dropped it a couple of times, once from the desk and once from the bed. both times it was in the case and close and is working just fine. The first time the go to last page feature would not work for awhile, but seems to have corrected itself....Gotta be careful, It would be hard to be without even for a few days.
