Using MobiPocket to convert The Wheel of Time books in HTML...

My Kindle shipped today! My girlfriend is buying my a Kindle for Christmas, and as I am going out of town, she wanted me to have it for the trip. But on to the question!

I am an avid fan of fantasy books, in particular, the Wheel of Time series, by Robert Jordan. I have owned several copies of each of the books, and even the codex that was published, giving technical details about the cultures in the book, but without a narrative (I love lore). I got fed up with buying new copies once mine got dog eared, missing pages, etc, so I went scrounging on the internet for a digital copy. I finally found exactly what I had been searching for, a meticulously organized zip file that included all 11 books, plus the 3 prequels, AND the codex. It includes all maps, pictures, everything I wanted.

My question is if there is someone out there who has experience adapting .html to .prc using the MobiPocket Creator, in order to help me have this ready before I leave next Tuesday. It is approximately 10 Books with 55 Chapters each, each chapter is its' own .html file, plus 1 full book in a single .html, 3 short stories, and the Codex. The guide has it's own ToC at the very beginning that I would like to somehow incorporate, but the 10 books with individual chapters have a seperate .html page that acts as a ToC, linking to the chapters. Please respond here, or e-mail me.

PS - If this was posted in the wrong forum, I apologize, as I wasn't sure what catagory it fell under.

Edit 3/1/09 - Just added the entire series that is all but intact. See my post below for more information about it.

i'd first combine the html files - i can't find a software to easily do this - the closest is http://rlaksana.blogspot.com/2007/09/vhtml-merge-177-combine-multip...
which ought to work.

alternately, you can use one of the two methods listed here - http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t365486-how-to-combine-thousa...

after that i'd use mobipocket - at thekindle.wordpress.com you can find the pdf conversion post - it's on the top posts list on the right hand side. that post has comprehensive directions.

I tried using the HTML combination software in the first link, and while usign the multi-file mode worked to combine everything together, do you know how I would be able to keep my ToC? I tried using that option, and it decided not to work.

Ok, using a combination of MobiPocket Creator, the HTMLMerger program abhi linked me too, and some internet forum searching, I think I have done something that may work...if someone with a Kindle on hand sees this and is willing to help, please leave me a message on this thread...working a few kinks out, but I have a build ready to go, and I will be up for the next 5 hours at least, heh.

Okay, so I'd Love to have the Wheel of Time series on my Kindle, so much so that I would be willing to fight the battle with the conversion, where did you find your html copy?

I got it off of a torrent website....I have had many digital copies in the past, usually PDF. Those tended to be horribly misspelled, couldn't really search it, and it was a strain on the eyes. I don't know who put this one together, but they did it perfect. Each book is in its 6th revision, to make sure everything is just right, and the codex is in its 3rd. I'd be happy to share it with you, if you're willing to help me test my conversions...I just can't wait for my Kindle, heh.

That would be cool! I would obviously have to learn my way around the conversion program, as I haven't yet tried it, but I understand it's fairly straight-forward to use.

Well, hopefully I have already taken care of the conversions, but seeing as I don't have my Kindle yet, I can't test it.

This is a link to a torrent file containing all of the WOT series in .lit format (Microsoft Reader). To read on the kindle, install stanza (free download from http://www.lexcycle.com) on your PC or Mac, open the .lit file in stanza, then export text in the format you prefer. I usually export as .txt, but stanza lets you export as azw also. Load the resulting file to your kindle via usb. Good luck!

I got my Kindle! While I love it, I am having way too much trouble registering it...I may even have to get a replacement sent to me. Oh well. Anyway, it gave me a chance at least to test out my conversions. This is "The World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time." Try it out, see if it works for you, let me know!

I'll check it out and let you know! Thanks!
I'm sorry you're having problems getting your Kindle to register. I didn't have a problem with that as I recall, but then that was months ago!

I have just ordered my kindle yesterday, I am living in Buenos Aires and my son is going to bring it to me from Boston, the question I have is, do I have to register it? I was looking around eysterday on Amazon.com and I was able to order books already and my Kindle appeared under my account name. Do I still have to register it from Boston?
