Free Kindle Books - All Sources

Please add free books from authors (ex: Coelho free book, Tor free books, etc.) to the Author Offers - Free Books page. This page is for free books from websites like manybooks etc. Top Sources -
  1. You can find nearly all Project Gutenberg (19,505) these books in Kindle Format, Free at ManyBooks.net. Also, www.mnybks.net is an extension of Manybooks above, but if you access it through the basic WebBrowser in Kindle, you can download directly to your Kindle. (choose MobiPocket Creator)
  2. [Courtesy Jon Wolf] The MobileRead eBook library that has thousands of eBooks available in BBeB (LRF for the Sony reader line), Mobipocket, and IMP for the EB1150 and Reb1200.
  3. From Mary - Just found another free book for Kindle from Amazon... "The Surgeon" by Tess Gerritsen I have signed up to receive their (edit: Amazon's )emails, and have been pleased with the results. I get notices of the free books available, as well as free music available. I generally don't go for the 'newsletter' emails from commercial outfits because they generally just want to sell, but Amazon's has been nice because they offer the freebies as well.
  4. From Mary - In looking around, I have found a couple more web sites that offer free books in a format usable on your Kindle. The first is the Online Books Page, they have over 30,000 titles available. The second is Munseys. While it is not as easy to navigate, it does offer a wide variety of books available for download. My friend Dan has also found a freeware program that will convert a text file to the .prc format. He promptly converted a couple of books for me to try out. They came out good, although there were no chapter links, which I think is the next step he's trying to work out. For those of you who like to dabble in new things, you could always convert your own text!
  5. From Cillasi - feedbooks.com is a great source for free kindle books. You can even download directly to kindle
  6. From Mary - For the Sci -Fi fans among us, BAEN has a number of free downloads. Books are available for purchase at very reasonable prices, as well! (use the link for the MOBI format)

@Mary: There's a very easy to use application called the MobiPocket creator that allows you to convert Word documents, PDF files, or text files to Kindle format. You can add Table of Contents and cover images as well without too much effort or advanced technical know-how. I highly recommend it.

Konstantine knows a LOT of free sites for books. Since I know him in real world and kindle world, he has emailed me a list, so you could ask him. If you need help with anything linux, including Kindle, I think Konstantine is your go-to guy.

The Ramesh Kindle Etext Library.

Also wanted to say..the Ebook has changed the definition of the word "book". Now a detailed text, an office document and a collection of weblinks are all "books".
