When you get a minute, please check out my three Kindle books at Amazon. Just use my name to search, and they will pop up. Or, if you prefer to search by title, they are:
1. Assignment in Antibua
2. Julius Caesar
3. Spymaster
Many thanks.

I agree with you about Andre Norton's wonderful skill in describing planets and characters. Her books are among those that I can read over and over. My favorite is "Catseye."
What is interesting about Amber is that I remember meeting Zelazny one year at Comicon when I was a teen and the person in front of me asked if Amber was real. He simply responded that he could never tell anyone either way because they would be disappointed with either answer. Then he winked as the guy left. I have never been able to figure out that wink.
One of the first colony ships from Earth gets lost and lands on a old world (it's sun has gone from a yellow star to a red star, hence it is a "dark over all" world) with an ancient, dying, telepathic race that capable of breeding with humans. All the earth technology is "lost." Now, jump forward a 1,000 or 1,500 yrs, when Terrans "rediscover" Darkover. The series starts from there and goes interesting places.
