What I'm Reading

My friend Dan found this cartoon and I loved it!

I am currently reading:
I've got several Samples that I'm looking at right now, A Course in Miracles, and a few from the bestseller list. I'm going on a short vacation, so I'm loading my Kindle with the next couple of Honor Harrington books, and some of my old favorites.

Anna Karenina through DailyLit.com ( I get an installment every day in my email!) I've thought about having e-mailed to my Kindle... hmmm)
I've started reading the 'Honor Harrington' series, available through Baen Books (the first ten are FREE!) I enjoyed 'On Basilisk Station' , 'The Honor of the Queen' ,and "A Short Victorious War", I'm now ready to start book five of this series!

Finished up with Accounting, and now the class is Economics... staying busy with the college courses, and work has gotten pretty busy lately, too.
I just finished
Dead Until Dark, it was a fun read. I've got so many books on my Kindle, I probably won't get to the rest of them for a while!
The Storm of Swords
"Mrs Beast", a novel by Pamela Ditchoff, one of our own Network Authors!
The Twilight series: I'm finished with this one. I really enjoyed the books!
The Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death (Oh my gosh, hilariously funny! especially if you've lived in Arizona or the Pacific Northwest)
A Game of Thrones
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells,
A Crown Of Swords by Robert Jordan (hardback),
Ohiowa by Alex Miller, another of our Network Authors.
The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne MacCaffrey,
Assignment in Antibua, by Sig Rosenblum
Flash by L.E. Modesitt (Kindle).
I'm up to about 9 pages of books on my Kindle. I need to get some serious reading done! Oh, for a few weeks of vacation!

Great post Mary, and thnaks again for having me on the show. This week I am reading Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. What will you say to others about the book; True Love Is Not Common? www.eloquentbooks.com/TrueLoveIsNotCommon.html

Thank you for the birthday greetings. I had truly forgotten and went off to No. Africa for a temporary job and the first day at work was my birthday. I (and my colleagues) were shocked.
Have fun. A day when you are awake and vertical is, by definition, a good day.

Thank you for the welcome, Mary. I'm sure I will enjoy my experiences with other Kindle enthusiasts. I also would love to hear from people who enjoy James Patterson books.

Okay, so I've been lazy!

Well, not really... I've just been incredibly busy. Not the normal busy, but up a few notches! I work at a full-time job. 40 hours a week, currently the 10 pm to 6 am shift. Work has been very busy lately. Usually I'm like the Maytag repairman, waiting for something to break, but with new equipment in the building, and lots of new things to learn about this equipment, I've been hopping! You see, new equipment is supposed to be better, easier to fix, and so on, but the r… Continue

The Text-to-Speech Feature

Last night I was reading (okay, so what's new?), I also happened to be listening to live music at my favorite coffeehouse, Rockhopper's. I Was just getting started on book 4 of the Twilight series, and it was closing time. Darn. So I drove away, regretting that I couldn't be reading while I drove. Ah! Text-To-Speech! This would be a great opportunity to try it out for more than the short 30 second or so demos, I've done in the past. I pull… Continue

Handy File Conversions for your Kindle

I've been reading a lot on the forums about converting files for the Kindle. I have tried this a few times, and have had some success, so I thought I pass on to you what I've learned.

There are a number of programs available to convert files to a format your Kindle can read.
First Question: What formats can my Kindle read?

.azw
.mobi
.prc
.txt

Next Question: What software can I use? Will it cost me an arm & a leg?

The software I use depends on what type of conversion I need to do. For ge… Continue

At Last!

( I also posted this on the Forum, but wanted to post it here as well!)

I woke up today, groaning at the alarm clock, "Can't I just sleep a bit longer?" But then I remembered a meeting. I needed to be at the south end of the Island for a meeting. I had just an hour to get ready to leave. While brushing my teeth, I remembered, "Oooh, my Kindle is supposed to be here today!" Now wide awake, I went to the kitchen to put on a kettle for tea. Filling the kettle, I look out; a clear blue sky greets m… Continue

Kindle Accessories

I was asked what I would consider to be necessary accessories for the KIndle. (1 or 2) Here's my list, short and sweet:

A case or cover. After spending that amount of money, it's wise to get a case to protect it it when not in use!
You don't have to spend a fortune on a case, the stock case from Amazon for $29.95 isn't half bad! If you're crafty, check out Rhonlynn's blog, she has directions for knitting and fel… Continue
