Five Stars, 'Frighteningly Good,' Prof. Jen Knox comments on The Raven

Jen Knox, MFA, Creative Writing Professor in San Antonio, TX, a fiction editor at Our Stories Literary JournalThe Raven Affair is a fast-moving book that pulls you in from page one. The sense of urgency that Nedelton creates from the get-go grows exponentially as the tale progresses. Raven is a hired hand, on the trail of a war criminal, but he soon finds his assignment isn't what it seems. This book is dynamic and frighteningly believable, full of complex plot twists and sinister intellectual…See More

Blurbs for Crossroads & The Raven Affair:

CROSSROADS BLURB

On July 21st of 1994, Jack Smith, a former CIA operative, dies at the Ocean Side Health Facility, CA. Only a few weeks later, thousands of miles away in Russia, David Tallman, the leader of the same CIA group, dies at the hands of Dr. Tatiana Borisova, Director of the former KGB Special Projects. Jack’s and Tallman’s deaths culminate decades long struggle for supremacy in extrasensory control. What secrets did they take to their graves? What was Tallman’s group involved in and why was it hiding in the long forgotten town of Crossroads? Why were the Russians so afraid of it? Two deadly romances. Read Crossroads, find out….
THIS NOVEL IS BASED ON TRUE EVENTS.
Note: Tallman’s character was based on a former U.S. agent who operated in the 1960s in East Berlin.

THE RAVEN AFFAIR BLURB

A man on the run. Anton was on the run for the past twenty years. Italy, Spain, Ireland, America. What is his horrible secret?
Two priests living in San Francisco, Father Dominic and Father Joe, like millions of Americans, had never heard of him. Interpol agents are pursuing him when their employer suddenly and unexplainably stops them. They are unaware that one of them is leading a double life and operating clandestinely as a high priced hit-man ‘Raven.’ And then, there are Mick and Lynnie in San Fran. Mick, ostensibly the very popular maitre d’ at the Westin St. Francis’ Michael Mina Restaurant but—unknown to Lynnie and his employers—also a dreaded underworld figure codenamed ‘Clerk.’
What invisible circumstance connects the innocents with the criminals? Romance with a killer? Read The Raven Affair. Find out...

A few days back, I received a letter from Midwest Book Review congratulating me on my "FEAR!" novel. It is supposed to be featured on the "Reviewer's Bookwatch" for five years. You think we'll survive that long?

The Amazon rank is based on so many factors, you can't link it to book sales alone. There's some sort of complicated algorithm involved and, even if I knew what it was, I probably couldn't explain it.

The only advice I can offer is to identify where your readers are and connect with them. Try Amazon and ereader forums. If you're interested, I've done a series of posts about ebook publishing, marketing and promotion on my blog Writing for Hire.

I do feel bad for authors with publishers (jeez, never thought I'd be saying that!) due to the lack of control they have over the pricing of ebooks.

I think the issue of ebook rights is becoming HUGE in publishing contracts. Smart authors are going to start reserving ebook rights for themselves.

But, hey, I'll do what I can to help you out. :) I like reading new authors and spreading the word however I can.

Here's the thing. The best way to sell ebooks on Amazon is through lower prices. I was selling my novel for $1.59 per download until early December last year. I sold maybe 40 to 70 downloads per month. In early December, I dropped the price to $.99 per download and sales went through the roof.

I sold almost 400 downloads in December. This was followed by two months in a row when I sold more than 1,000 downloads per month. In March, the sales figures dropped off. However, I still sold more than 500 downloads, which was more than I did in December when the whole wild ride started. (And made MORE money selling ebooks at $.99 per download, based on volume alone.)

Bear in mind, I'm a new, unknown author, too. And an indie, at this point. (This gives me the flexibility of setting my own price. A real plus it turns out.)

Tell you what? I'm a bit snowed under with books to review and read prior to a panel I'm moderating at Malice. However, I'll buy yours and (if it's my thing) review it on my blog. And tell others about it, too.

To qualify for Fictionwise, don't you need to have a minimum number of books published? (I have only one novel, so far.) And did you know that at the end of June, Amazon's author royalty on ebooks goes up to 70% of the retail price, as long as it meets certain conditions (basically, being priced a minimum of $2.99 per download).

I don't know what sales volume is like on Fictionwise, but Amazon sales are really high volume, which more than makes up for the lower royalty.
