Kindle Your Social Life --- We're Making Reading Cool Again

I wanted to start noting down newspapers that are dead or dying out -
1) Seattle PI - If it's not sold by March 10th, will be closed down. After 146 years.
2) Rocky Mountain News - closing down today - Feb 28th, 2009. After 150 years.

We really are looking at the death of an entire industry.

Also, according to Yahoo News, Four owners of 33 U.S. daily newspapers have sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the past 2 1/2 months.

San Francisco Chronicle announced they may have to stop publishing in a couple of months unless their last idea pans out - and it has to do with an e-reader they're planning, for their paper. I live in San Francisco and am mightily shocked.

What an odd development for our times. We used to have three dailies in L.A. until the Herald Examiner closed many years ago. Now the L.A. Times seems to be in trouble. I wonder which (if any) paper will pursue a paperless, completely online subscription model first.
